Artistic Licence is a theatre and film project that collaborates with individuals involved in probation services to develop fictional characters and explore the challenges they face.

Artistic Licence is Playing ON's drama and film programme for people with experience of the criminal justice system. Working in probation settings in Lewisham, it uses theatre-making to build confidence, communication and conflict resolution skills, not by talking about those things, but by doing them. Participants write, perform and collaborate over ten weeks, often discovering capabilities they didn't know they had. The programme works because it treats people as artists first, and as people navigating difficult circumstances second.
