Raising The Roof is a project for care experienced young people to develop stories with fictional characters inspired by real life.
What?
Since 2020 Leap Confronting Conflict and Playing ON have been working together with care experienced young people, aged 16-25, to create fictional performances and short films about their lives.
We are very excited to announce that in partnership with Arts Council England, Social Care London, Goldsmiths University and Lewisham College, we will be embarking on another Raising the Roof programme with a new cohort of care experienced young people in January 2024. They will join a supportive community of 12-15 people with similar lived experiences. As a group, young people will develop stories inspired by real situations, building their skills in storytelling, character creation and everything that goes into a creative performance. They will take part in weekly zooms from home, through which they will have the chance to create stories, and work toward a sharing at the end.
When?
Beginning Tuesday 16th January, and continuing with weekly sessions via zoom. Young people will also be expected to attend an intensive weekend in a theatre space on 23rd/24th March, to bring their stories to life on their feet.
Who?
We want to work with care experienced young people, aged 16-25, living in London. For context, all of the young people that have taken part in Raising the Roof since 2020 have lived experience of the care system, and for many, an interest in exploring, discussing and sharing their thoughts and memories of that experience in a creative way.
We will pay London Living Wage for their time, payable in Love to Shop vouchers.
