Leap: Above and Beyond
Raising the Roof 1: Autumn 2021
Above and Beyond was where Raising the Roof began, in autumn 2021, as part of Leap Confronting Conflict’s Under Our Roof programme. Sessions ran on Zoom from September to December, led by Jim Pope and Lin Coghlan with two care-experienced young people, Ashley and Evie, at the heart of the group. Lin gave Ashley regular writing sessions and Jim coached her in leading drama exercises herself, the start of a path that has since seen her return to the programme as a facilitator. The work centred on two fictional characters, Ethan and Louise, whose story unfolded partly through phone messages, and on the conflict between them. The programme ended with an interactive performance on Zoom in December 2021.
“For me there’s a sense of living another life for a little while instead of living my own. It’s good to do especially when sometimes you might think I’m too tired, I’m too stressed, but it is a really good way to unwind.”
