Leap: 24 Hours in Paris

Raising the Roof 2: Summer 2022

Our second cohort, also part of Leap’s Under Our Roof programme, met weekly on Zoom through the spring and early summer of 2022, devising together with Jim Pope and Lin Coghlan. Participants included young people referred through Rose Bruford College’s care leavers pathway, and Ashley Mayer, who had come through the first cohort. The group built a fictional world out of their own experiences, devising tasks and conversations, and the characters let people explore things at one remove: one participant who has never known their birth father played a character whose dad had led a double life, and described it as seeing their own situation from the other side of the curtain. The work came together as 24 Hours in Paris, shared in person at Brady Arts Centre in the summer of 2022.

“The programme as a whole is just something that’s lacking across the country and I think it would help a lot of other young care experienced people throughout their life building that confidence and also learning to be proud of what they’ve experienced and how they’ve been raised.”

“The creative experience of just watching these stories and this world that we created through our own experiences and just general devising tasks and general conversation was amazing to watch.”
